VIP design round 1... then round 2

I spent this afternoon working on a design for an up coming parenting gathering we will be having May 29 at First Assembly.

Design 1... was BAD.

Design #2 is better.

I'm still not too happy with either.

Suggestions?

I think you're going in the right direction on the top one. Maybe some black boxes with white text to make it pop a little more?

i don't consider myself a "design guy" so take this with a grain of salt.

i like the top one, especially if this is for parents. i'm not crazy about the fonts (dafont.com has some great ones, but i can't get it to load now). i'd also make them more uniform on the bottom. maybe one size for the heading and another for the info?

i also like alex's idea about offsetting the text with a box instead of the glow. the outlined text with the glow is hard to read. or maybe just use a thicker font?

if you stick with the green one, then i'd say do something with the "rays" coming out from the soccer ball on the left. they should extend out or at least fade in order to hide the fact that the image is just laid over the green background.

anyway, those are just some thoughts. very opinionated thoughts from someone who probably doesn't know any better.

this has too much text. I believe you want to grab their attention first and get them to read more. Maybe just highlight event and time. Then maybe on the back place the information you want to read. The text is drowning out the picture that is supposed to be marketing the event. Just a thought. do you check out flikr or any other church marketing websites. they usually give me inspiration in what I am designing. hope this helps

I really liked the top one. As a 30 something mother, it appealed to me.

Hello!

I had an idea for this...thought I'd take a break and put it together. You can see it here:
